Boone was so proficient at the game of golf, that Illinois State's men's golf program was founded because of him in 1933 ... recognized as the first golf participant at Illinois State ... won the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in both 1934 and 1935 ... placed second in 1933 and 1936 ... led Illinois State to team titles in 1935 and 1936 ... won all of his regular-season matches (39) in four years ... team captain in 1934 and 1935 ... died in 1993 at the age of 80 ... the Boone Golf Scholarship was started in the fall of 1995.
