Four-year letterwinner in track and two-year letterwinner in football ... two-time state champion in the javelin ... in senior season, recorded four first-place finishes and went undefeated in the javelin ... in the discus, finished seventh at the NAIA National Championship ... finished fourth at the NAIA National Championship in the javelin as a junior ... took second at the IIAC meet in the discus ... served as a graduate assistant football coach at ISU in 1959 ... coached football, track, and wrestling at Momence, Zion-Benton, and Leroy High Schools ... was the head wrestling coach at Eastern Illinois for the 1962 season ... retired from a 15-year tenure at Bemidji State, where he was an educator and men's track and cross country coach ... has two degrees from Illinois State, earning his bachelor's in physical education in 1954 and a master's in junior college physical education, in 1960.
