TORONTO - The Canadian Football League (CFL) has honored a former Illinois State player for the second week in a row, as former Redbird quarterback Kevin Glenn was named the Gibson's Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week for week three, the league announced Tuesday.
Glenn earned the weekly honors after leading the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 28-7 rout over the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers Friday night. Glenn completed his first 14 passes of the game and finished 29-of-36 for 336 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Ticats to their first win of the 2010 season.
Glenn has thrown for 889 yards, five touchdowns and completed 70 percent of his pass attempts through three games this season for the Ticats. In 10 seasons in the CFL, he has completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 24,270 yards and 132 touchdowns in stints with Saskatchewan (2001-03), Winnipeg (2004-08) and Hamilton (2009-present).
In four seasons with the Redbirds, Glenn completed 645-of-1,119 pass attempts for 8,032 yards and 61 touchdowns and rushed 247 times for 490 yards and eight scores. He helped lead the Redbirds to their first two playoff appearances in school history in 1998 and 1999 and set 25 school records in his illustrious career.
Last week, former Redbird defensive end Brent Hawkins was named the Gibson's Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week, after he recorded two quarterback sacks and one forced fumble, which he returned 47 yards for a touchdown, in Saskatchewan's win over the B.C. Lions.
Glenn and the Ticats return to action Thursday, July 22, on the road against Montreal at 6:30 p.m.
