Mason Klabo Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State freshman Mason Klabo has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the Conference office on Monday afternoon.

He averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game on the week, while making 13-of-18 (72.2 percent) from the field and 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from long range. On Wednesday against Eastern Kentucky, he set a career-high in points with 17, before narrowly missing that number three nights later against Chicago State where he scored 16 points.

He led the Redbirds – and all MVC freshmen – in scoring on the week, helping the Redbirds to their seventh and eighth wins of the season. His field goal percentage on the week (.722) was fourth-best in the MVC, and he had the seventh-best three-point field goal percentage.

His scoring average is tied for the 21st-best, his field goal percentage eighth best, and his three-point field goal percentage was 11th-best during the week among NCAA by a freshman. Regardless of class, his field goal percentage was tied for the 62nd-best in the NCAA during the week, and the 20th-best percentage by a guard, while his 3.5 makes per game was the third-most in the MVC among players with at least two games during the week.

Illinois State is 8-2 on the season, and has won seven consecutive games, the longest win streak by an ISU team since the 2016-17 season. ISU takes to the road to close out the non-conference season on Saturday, December 13 with a 4 p.m. (CT) tip-off inside the Delta Center against the Utah State Aggies.
