EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Illinois State women's tennis team completed the first day of singles competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals Thursday with Marcia Tere-Apisah advancing to Friday's final round of singles qualifying.
Tere-Apisah earned a first-round bye and then competed against Wisconsin's Michelle Linden in the second round, defeating her 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Tere-Apisah will play against Western Michigan's Olivia Myers Friday with the winner advancing to the main draw.
Jelena Karla Vujicic defeated Illinois' Jerricka Boone 7-6(2), 0-6, 6-4. She then went on to play Bowling Green's Anna Kholodnaya and was defeated 6-4, 6-4.
Veronika Golanova competed against Eastern Michigan's Anna Veleva and was defeated in the first round, 6-6, retire.
Doubles play will begin at 2 p.m. Friday and the Redbird duo of Tere-Apisah and Vujicic will begin compete at 4:15 p.m. against Milwaukee's Eszter Zador and Labina Petrovska. Singles competition will continue Friday morning.Â
