ISU Welcomes Winona State to Horton Field House For Pink Meet

NORMAL, Ill. – After an away meet in Denton, Texas, last weekend, the Illinois State women's gymnastics team returns home to host Winona State in its third home meet of the 2016 season on Friday, Feb. 11, in Horton Field House at beginning at 7 p.m.

The team will be wearing pink leotards during the meet and encourages everyone in attendance to wear pink, to help them honor those who have battled and are still battling cancer. Admission is free to all fans in attendance and $1 hot dogs and pink lemonade will be on sale at the concession stand.

"We are very excited to be home again this weekend," head coach Bob Conkling said. "The team has worked hard in the gym this week working on improving their routines and consistency."

The Redbirds finished third in last Friday's quad-meet against conference foe Texas Woman's and against top-10 ranked teams in Oklahoma and Auburn.

"After competing against two teams ranked in the top 10 in the country last week, the team saw firsthand what they need to do to improve their routines and their score potential," Conkling continued. "They are determined to improve and it has been fun coaching them this week."

Senior Amanda Mohler was named the Midwest Independent Conference Specialist of the Week for the third week in a row, after she had one of her best beam routines of her four years here at Illinois State. The Tinley Park, Ill., native posted a 9.900 and placed second behind a perfect 10 score in first place.

Freshman Meredith LaRoche continued her strong start to her collegiate career by placing fifth in the all-round with a score of 38.500. LaRoche finished vault with a 9.550, uneven bars with a 9.625, balance beam with a 9.650, and floor exercise with a 9.675.

The meet will be streamed live on GoRedbirds.com and will be produced by RedbirdHD.tv.
