ST. LOUIS – Illinois State senior swimmer Katelyn Kresal was one of 10 Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes named a State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award winner for the winter season, league commissioner Doug Elgin announced Tuesday.
The senior from Tinley Park, Illinois, owns a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average and has been named to both the MVC and AFNI academic honor rolls. She has earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and been named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team following each of the past two seasons.
A standout in the community as well, Kresal has volunteered as a Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) representative for the past two years. She has additionally volunteered her time for the Sheridan Parade, Bloomington-Normal Nature Preserve, Glenn Elementary pen pals and McLean County Chamber of Commerce holiday party.
Student-athletes selected as State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award recipients are required to be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship through sportsmanship and significant community service, while participating in a sport during the season of recognition.
The Illinois State swimming and diving team recently concluded its season with a fourth-place finish at the MVC Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 17-20.
