SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Freshman Paige Seiser turned in a 10-over-par 152 (74-78) to lead the Illinois State women's golf team over Monday's first two rounds of Missouri State's MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at the par-71 Twin Oaks Country Club.
As a team, the Redbirds shot a 316 over the first 18 holes, before shooting a 315 in the second round, as their two-round total of 631 puts them in a tie for 11th place. UTEP leads the 15-team field with a 599, 10 strokes ahead of second-place South Dakota State.
Seiser shot a 3-over-par 74 in the first round and helped pace ISU in the second round with a 7-over-par 78. Junior Kiley Walsh was the only other Redbird to produce a pair of sub-80 rounds, as she shot a 7-over-par 78 to begin the day, before concluding with a 79 to finish with a 157 (78-79).
Sophomore Caitlin Sims bounced back in the second round with a 7-over-par 78, after shooting an 83 to start the day. She is four strokes behind Walsh with a 161 (83-78).
Junior Abby Luchtenburg carded a pair of 81s to finish the day with a 162 (81-81), while senior Maggie Ambrose shot a two-round total of 166 (86-80), with her improvement in the second round rounding out the team's overall score for the round.
Senior Renee Solberg is one of 14 individuals competing in the event, and she finished the day with a 161 (81-80).
"We haven't been able to get everyone on the same page quite yet, but I know this squad is fully capable of special things," head coach Darby Sligh said. "There's going to be a learning curve to develop into the team I know we can be. I am hopeful that we will be able to rebound tomorrow with something we can be proud of. I am excited for Paige (Seiser) and how she has carried herself in her first two events."
ISU concludes the tournament Tuesday with the third and final round beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
