NORMAL, Ill. – On the second day of the Redbird Invitational, Illinois State won six singles matches and five doubles matches. The team concludes their home tournament with 24 wins to wrap up ISU's 2017 tournament season.
Doubles team Andreas Boers and Egehan Sertkaya defeated Marquette's Julian Robinson and Eddie Griesedieck, 8-4, for their first match of the day. Doubles duo Christoffer Greve and Manuel Bernhard took home the second doubles win of the day, topping Eastern Illinois's Kaisei Kuroki and Grant Reiman and, 8-7. Flight three doubles partners Cameron Peterson and Brandon Lew claimed the third doubles win of the day with an 8-5 victory over Eastern Illinois' Gage Kingsmith and Jared Woodson.
For the second round of doubles, ISU's Boers and Greve faced Kuroki and Grant Reiman from Eastern Illinois and came out on top for the fourth doubles win of the day, 8-2. Peterson and Lew topped Freddie O'Brien and Trent Reiman from Eastern Illinois, capturing the final doubles win of the fall season with an 8-3 score. Sertkaya and Bernhard came up short to Marquette's Robinson and Griesedieck, 8-4.
In singles, ISU's Boers took on Marquette's Griesedieck and captured the first singles win of the day, 6-4, 7-5. Greve defeated Marquette's Robinson, 6-4, 6-0. Sertkaya topped Eastern's Kingsmith for the third singles win of the day, 7-6, 6-1. For the fourth singles win of the day, Bernhard fought back to defeat Eastern's Charbonneau in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Peterson claimed another singles win for the Redbirds, defeating Eastern's Trent Reinman, 6-3, 6-0. Lew captured the sixth and final singles win of the day, against Eastern's Grant Reiman, 6-3, 6-4.
With the completion of the Redbird Invitational, that concludes ISU's 2017 tournament season. The Redbirds return to play on Jan. 27, 2018, in Kalamazoo, Mich. for a match up against Butler. The team will be on the road for their first two matches of the dual season and will face Toledo for their dual season home opener on Feb. 2.
