IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois State swimming and diving team set four school records, one of which met an NCAA B cut, Friday at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Redbirds advanced to fourth place in the championships.
Rachel Root made an NCAA B cut as she broke her school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.60. Rachel Holm broke the 100-yard breaststroke record in the morning (1:02.91), until Jensen Keck took it back with a time of 1:02.67 in the finals. Karley Licking also earned a seventh place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.32).Â
"Great overall day for us today," ISU head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "A lot of best swims. Four school records were broken, and a NCAA B cut. The team is doing great and looking forward to carrying this momentum into tomorrow."
Savannah Rubocki touched the wall seventh in the 400-yard IM. Laura Paskoff finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.78), followed by Kristin Verkler in eighth (1:52.13). Maia Cain earned eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.60. Cain, Paskoff, Rubocki and Verkler all secured MVC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors with their finishes.
The relay team of Cain, Holm, Paskoff and Root also finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:47.85).
Diving will not be scored until tomorrow night.
The MVC Championships will return for the final day of competition Saturday at 10 a.m.
