OXFORD, Miss. – The Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams open their outdoor season at the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by the University of Mississippi at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex March 24-25.
The Redbirds will be competing against 30 teams that are spread throughout the country including two ranked teams who are the No.13 men's Ole Miss and No. 23 women's Ole Miss. Illinois State will also competing against Missouri Valley foe Indiana State.
The women are coming off a strong conference at the MVC Championships as they were the women's 2017 runner-up championships. The Elite 18 Winner, long jump and 400-meter dash champion, Amanda McClain will be competing in the long jump this week and running a leg in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays.
Ashleigh Wilson, Ally Christiani, Rayanne Wright and Whitney Ward will look to start their outdoor season off in the 400-meter dash.
The MVC 200-meter champion, D'Jenne Egharevba will look to lead the Redbirds in the 200-meter dash. Joining Egharevba in the 200 will be Emily Cowan, Demetria Anderson and Ward.
Lindsey Lewis and Molly Krawczykowski will lead the way for the women distance crew. Lewis will be running her first 3,000-meter steeplechase of the 2017 season. Grace Beattie will be joining Lewis in her career-debut of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. They will also be running the 1,500-meter run.
Krawczykowski will show her veteran leadership in the 800-meter run. Freshman Meagan Biddle will debut in the Redbird uniform as she will be running the 800-and 1,500-meter run.
Haley Becker and Morgan Keller will lead the women in the field events. Becker earned All-MVC honors in the high jump at the indoor conference championships and will be the only one competing in this event for the women. Â
Keller, All-MVC shot putter, will show her leadership in the shot put and discus throw this weekend. Kassie Hoyme, Brandy Thomas and Sydney Laufenberg will also be throwing for the Redbirds this weekend.
For the men, Second-Team All-American, Derrius Rodgers and will be running legs in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays. 400-meter dash MVC Champion, Ben Montgomery will also be running legs in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.
Paul Steeno will show his veteran leadership for the distance crew, as he runs the 800- and 1,500-meter run. Jack Anstey will also be joining Steeno in the 800- and 1,500-meter run.
Anthony McRoberts earned All-MVC in the high jump at the MVC indoor championships, and he will be competing in the high jump and long jump with weekend. Francis Ehigbai and Derek Wegman will also be competing in the high jump this weekend. Travon Diggins will be joining McRoberts in the long jump.
Zachary Gregory and Daniel Webber will be competing in the hammer throw, while Adam Schaufelberger competes in the shot put.
