ISU Track and Field Conclude Day One of Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Illinois State track and field teams had a strong first day at the Virginia Challenge hosted by Virginia University in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Grace Beattie had a stellar day as she captured a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running a time of 10:40.52. This is her second time in her career running the steeplechase. She ran a time of 10:48.52 at the Joe Walker Invitational earlier this spring. Ariel Michalek had a strong effort in the steeplechase as she ran a time of 10:36.66 placing 13th overall. Her time is ranked third in the Missouri Valley Conference and 45th on the NCAA West qualifying list. Lindsey Lewis will run the steeplechase tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT.

D'Jenne Egharevba ran an impressive 11.68 in the 100-meter dash, placing sixth overall. She will run the 200-meter dash tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT.

Ashleigh Wilson tied her season-best 400-meter dash as she ran a time at 55.47, placing 11th overall.

In the 10,000-meter run, Ashley England finished in 14th with a time at 36:14.79.

In the heptathlon, Jordyn Bruce had a strong first day, as she captured two personal-best marks. She ran a personal-best in the 100-meter hurdles at a time of 14.96 and placed 11th in the event. She tossed her personal-best shot put with a mark at 9.40m (30-10.25). Bruce will resume tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. CT with the heptathlon long jump.

For the men, Derrius Rodgers had a tremendous performance in the 100-meter dash, as he ran a time at 10.49, placing third overall. Rodgers was the highest freshman finisher in the 100-meter. He will come back tomorrow to compete in the 200-meter dash at 2:20 pm. CT.

In the decathlon, Jordan Wilkerson is sitting in 10th place after day one with a total of 3,643. He will resume competition tomorrow at noon with the 110-meter hurdles.

The Redbirds are back in action tomorrow at the Virginia Challenge starting with Lewis in the steeplechase at 8 a.m. CT. The rest of the team will be competing tomorrow at the Illinois Twilight in Champaign, Illinois, starting with the women's hammer at 3 p.m. CT.

8 a.m. – Lindsey Lewis – 3,000-meter steeplechase

Noon – Jordan Wilkerson – 110-meter hurdles

12:30 p.m. – Jaylan McConico – 110-meter hurdles

1 p.m. – Francis Ehigbai – high jump

1:15 p.m. – Demetria Anderson – 100-meter hurdles

2 p.m. – D'Jenne Egharevba – 200-meter dash

2:20 p.m. – Derrius Rodgers – 200-meter dash

6 p.m. – Anthony McRoberts – high jump invite 

6:10 p.m. – Jalen Lewis – 400-meter hurdles

7 p.m. – Morgan Keller – shot put invite
