NORMAL, Ill. – After the first meet of the season against Central Michigan last weekend, the Illinois State gymnastics team will travel to Cape Giradeau, Missouri, to take on Southeast Missouri Friday evening. Competition against the Redhawks will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Houck Field House.
Head Coach Bob Conkling expressed his excitement for his team heading into the meet against Southeast Missouri.
"We are looking forward to competing against SEMO in our first conference opponent of the season," Conkling said. "The team is focused and ready to show improvements especially on bars and beam on Friday. Look for all-arounders Gabi Cooke and Meredith LaRoche to have consistent and strong performances again this weekend."
The Redbirds took second in last Saturday's meet against Central Michigan, with a team score of 191.600. Sophomore Gabrielle Cooke won the all-around competition with a score of 38.675, aided by a score of 9.850 on the floor exercise. Junior Meredith LaRoche finished behind her teammate in second overall in the all-around with a score of 37.875.
Senior Kylie Meyer competed for the first time in nearly two years due to a pair of ACL surgeries. Meyer competed on both bars and beam, with a solid score of 9.775 on beam, tying with teammate Alyssa Wiggle for the team high.Â
