MOBILE, Ala - The Illinois State men's golf team currently sits in 7th place after the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Due to the darkness, the Redbirds were unable to complete round two. The Redbirds shot a 11-over-par 299 in the first round, and will complete the second-round tomorrow morning. Florida State currently leads the 16-team field with an 8-under-par 280, followed by host South Alabama and Western Kentucky.
Junior Trent Wallace led the way for the Redbirds after shooting a one-under-par 71 (36-35) in the first round. He also tacked on 4 total birdies, and currently sits in a tie for 18th place on the individual leaderboard.
Junior David Rauer finished the first round with a score of 3-over-par 75 (38-37). He also fired a birdie in the first round and currently sits in a tie for 32nd place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore David Perkins finished with a 4-over-par 76 (37-39) in the first round, while senior Zach Burry finished the first round with a 5-over-par 77 (35-42), including two birdies in the front nine.
Freshman Daniel Anfield, who competed as an individual, finished the first day with a 19-over-par 161 (80-81).
"We didn't get much going in round one as a team," head coach Ray Kralis said. "While darkness prevented us from completing round two, we are playing better and have given ourselves a chance to make a move and catch a few teams. We need to finish that round well out of the gate tomorrow, carry some momentum into round three, and see what happens."
The Redbirds compete in the final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
