LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On the first day of the Lenny Lyles-Clark Wood Invite, hosted by Louisville, Illinois State freshman Julia Bourke posted two top-three finishes, winning the open hammer throw and placing second in the open shot put.
Bourke shined in the open section of the hammer throw, recording a personal-best heave of 57.88m (189-11) to win the event. With the mark, she improves to third all-time in Redbird track & field history and currently ranks fourth in the Valley and 36th in the NCAA West region.
Bourke then turned around and captured a second-place finish in the open shot put with a throw of 14.90m (48-10.75). Kassie Hoyme also performed well in the shot put, launching a throw of 14.28m (46-10.25).
In the men's open hammer throw, Zachary Gregory recorded his first win of the season with a throw of 51.81m (170-00). The mark is a season-best.
Competing the men's open long jump, LaMont Allen posted a huge personal-best of 6.95m (22-09.75) to finish third. His mark surpasses his previous personal-record by over half of a foot and seeds him eighth in the Valley.
