NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State sophomore David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after his impressive performance on his home course at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate on March 31 – April 1.
After enduring snow, wind and freezing temperatures, the East Peoria, Illinois native placed in a tie for 4th in the field of 90 golfers. The sophomore finished with a five-over-par 218 over the three rounds, and helped lead the Redbirds to a third-place finish in the tournament with scores of 305, 294, and 296 over the three rounds.
Perkins' two-under-par 69 ties his season low score by round. The sophomore tagged on an impressive 11 birdies throughout the tournament as well.
Perkins and the Redbirds will wrap up their spring season on April 9-10 when they travel to Columbia, Missouri, to compete in the Tiger Invitational at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course.
