NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State freshman gymnast Marie Priest was named Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Specialist of the Week, by the conference office Wednesday for her performance on the vault, floor and balance beam competitions at a dual-meet against Southeast Missouri State on Jan. 11.
Priest was impressive in her first collegiate meet, as she competed in three events. She placed the highest score for the Redbirds on vault with a total of 9.550 and on floor with a score of 9.700. Additionally, she received the second-highest score amongst the Redbirds on the balance beam with a score of 9.600. She is the first Redbird to be honored by the conference this season.
Priest and her teammates return to action Sunday, where they host their first meet of the season against Centenary at 2 p.m., inside Horton Field House. Admission is free for gymnastics club members and their families. There will also be a pre-meet Fun Zone from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ISU gymnasts will sign autographs post-meet.
