ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's newcomer Francis Ehigbai was named Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday by the Valley.
Illinois State traveled to Charleston, Illinois to compete in their first meet of the 2015-16 season. ISU swept the meet winning the EIU Early Bird Invitational for both men and women. Ehigbai earned first place at the EIU Early Bird and personal-best in the high jump with a height of 2.07m (06-09.50). His height is also leading the Missouri Valley Conference in the high jump and is currently ranked 22nd in the national rankings.
Ehigbai is the first Redbird to receive Athlete of the Week in the high jump event.
The men's and women's track and field team will be back in action on Jan. 15 as thy take on Indiana State in the annual Terre Haute Double Dual Meet.
