NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior gymnast Sami King was named Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Specialist of the Week by the conference office Tuesday, for her performances on the balance beam and uneven bars competitions at dual-meets last weekend against Air Force Academy, and Lindenwood.
King posted a score of 9.850 to win the balance beam competition and placed second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.800 against Air Force.
King, the fourth Redbird gymnast to be honored by the conference this season, continued her success as she matched her personal-best score two days later against Lindenwood with a score of 9.900 to win the balance beam competition. King also improved her score on the uneven bars from Friday's competition with a 9.875, placing first in the event.
The Redbirds return to action Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m., inside Horton Field House, to celebrate the seniors in the last home meet of the season.
