MUNCIE, Ind. – After a day off to travel between meets, the Illinois State women's gymnastics team faced off against Ball State for the second time in three days in a tri-meet hosted by the Cardinals along with Eastern Michigan. EMU took first with a score of 195.050, followed by Ball State in second (192.700) and the Redbirds finished third (191.900).
"I really felt that we did much better this meet and we posted our highest score of the season so far," head coach Bob Conkling said. "The nerves were more under control, especially with this being our second meet of the weekend."
Individually, senior Sarah Fisher stepped up with a 9.750 on vault, 9.675 on bars and a 9.650 on floor. Following Fisher, Amanda Mohler hit both her beam and bar routine well earning a 9.800 on beam and 9.775 on bars. Senior Danci Cha also contributed with a 9.675 on floor and 9.725 on bars.
"The seniors definitely stepped it up this meet and were leaders," Conkling said. "Sarah had a very solid meet and did great in all her routines."
The Redbirds return to action Sunday, Jan. 31, when they host in-state foe UIC in a dual meet inside Horton Field House. The team welcomes all gymnastics club members and families in central and northern Illinois to the meet and all kids in attendance are invited to attend an autograph session post meet with the Redbird gymnasts.
