NORMAL, Ill. – The second Redbird Basketball Coaches Shows of the 2015-16 season will air tonight, live from Pub II in Normal, Illinois. Fans can listen live on GoRedbirds.com, as Barb Smith and Dan Muller preview the three Redbird games this week, including a road game for the women and home and road games for the men.
The Barb Smith Show, hosted by Tim Lewis, starts out the night at 6 p.m. Coach Smith will be joined by senior guard Lexie Taylor. The women's team begins a three-game road swing at Indiana State Sunday (Jan. 10) and will travel to Northern Iowa (Jan. 15) and Drake (Jan. 17) the following weekend. During last week's two games, Taylor averaged seven points per game, including a career-high 10 points against Missouri State. She netted 60 percent of her field goal attempts to go along with three assists and two steals.
The Dan Muller Show follows at 7 p.m., hosted by Dick Luedke and Mike Matthews. Coach Muller will be joined by senior guard DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell. The men's team has won three-straight games, and is undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play. ISU hosts Loyola Wednesday at 7 p.m., before traveling to Indiana State Saturday. Akoon-Purcell had a career-high 28 points with a season-best nine rebounds yesterday in the win at Drake. He is averaging 16.3 points per game, which leads the team. Akoon-Purcell leads the team in field goal percentage, connecting on 39 percent of his field goal attempts. He is also one of the team's top rebounders, averaging 4.7 rebounds per game.
