NORMAL, Ill. – The nominees for the 2015-16 Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Doug Collins Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were announced Wednesday.
The winners will be crowned at The Reggies, Illinois State's annual academic excellence awards ceremony, on Sunday. The event, held at Redbird Arena, is sponsored by State Farm.
Nominees for the Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award are Kelly McShea (track and field & cross country/elementary education), Regan Romshek (softball/community health education), Rachel Root (swimming and diving/communication science disorders), Ashley Rosch (volleyball/environmental health), Sara Stankoskey (soccer/exercise science), Kiley Walsh (golf/Spanish) and Samantha Ward (gymnastics/exercise science).
Nominees for the Doug Collins Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award are J.D. LaFayette (track and field & cross country/computer science), Brian Rodemoyer (baseball/molecular and cellular biology) and Mark Spelman (football/accounting).
Five other awards will be conferred on Sunday, including the Impact Award, Good Neighbor Award, Jill Hutchison Female Athlete of the Year Award and Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year Award, as well as the Dr. Jim Johnson Phoenix Award.
