Sixteen teams will be competing in the tournament. Joining the Redbirds and the hosts are Ball State, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgetown, Marshall, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina – Aiken, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
Teams are constructed with five student-athletes, and only the top-four scores count towards the school's overall total in each round.
The Redbirds will be represented by junior Zach Burry, freshman David Perkins, sophomore Trent Wallace, senior Christian Crabill and senior Austin Havens. This is the third different lineup ISU has used this fall.
"After a disappointing outing at Colorado State where we did not back up our strong start at Wisconsin, I am definitely looking to move forward and get back into competition," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We are still tweaking the lineup a bit, which can be expected this early in the season and looking for some help at the back of the lineup. We have left our top guys hanging so far, and it's time to step up and show the depth we have as a squad."
Last Time Out
Burry continued his impressive performances this season Sept. 20 in the final round of Colorado State's Ram Masters Invitational, firing an even-par 70, which included four birdies, to earn him a 12th-place finish on the individual leaderboard with a final score of 3-over-par 213 (71-72-70) at the par-70, 7,218-yard Fort Collins Country Club.
The Redbirds finished in a tie for 13th-place, after shooting a 294 in the final round, improving from Monday's tally of 301 and finishing with an overall score of 886 (291-301-294). The host Rams won the 18-team event, aided by a 3-under-par 277 in the final round to finish with a 4-over-par 844 (284-283-277), seven strokes ahead of second-place Nevada.
Perkins produced another solid outing in his second career collegiate tournament, carding a 5-over-par 75 in the final round and finishing with a 6-over-par 216 (70-71-75), good enough for a tie for 21st place. Wallace finished the final 18 holes with a 3-over-par 73 (36-37), which included three birdies and improving four strokes from the previous round. He finished the tournament with a 223 (73-77-73).
