Redbird Swimming and Diving Ready for Busy Weekend

NORMAL, Ill. –The Illinois State swimming and diving team will split up and head different directions this weekend as the majority of the team heads to South Bend, Indiana, for the Dennis Stark Relays, at Notre Dame, on Friday. The rest of the team will travel to Missouri State for the Missouri State Invite on Saturday.

Friday's meet begins at 4 p.m. CT. Saturday's meet is set for a 10 a.m. start.

The Redbirds will enter this weekend's meets fresh off their wins at last Friday's season-opening double dual against Illinois Wesleyan and Lewis at Horton Pool.  The Redbirds topped both teams in the double dual, winning by scores of 197-91 and 184-92, respectively.

Head swimming coach Scott Cameron is looking forward to the opportunities presented by this weekend's two competitions.

"We are excited to see our athletes compete this upcoming weekend," said Cameron. "With the team splitting up, everyone is going to get a lot of racing in against some very strong competition, both at the Dennis Stark Relays and the Missouri State Invite meets. Both of these meets will offer great opportunities for our team to get better this weekend."

Illinois State's entire diving team will head to Notre Dame for the Dennis Stark Relays.

"Coming off a strong showing last weekend, I am excited to see how the divers will perform," said head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "Our first road trip will be a test for our young team of divers."

After a busy weekend, the team will have a week's rest before heading to Champaign, Illinois, for a double dual meet against Illinois and Southern Illinois on Oct. 22 at 12 p.m.
