Redbird Baseball Blood Drive Reaches Milestone

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State baseball team reached a milestone at its 12th annual blood drive on Dec. 9, as the 35 units of blood collected pushed the Redbirds over 500 total units collected in the history of the blood drive.

The blood drive, run in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is one of the Illinois State baseball team's top community projects each year.

"With a goal of 31 units to reach a total of 500 over 12 blood drives, I am happy to report that we surpassed our goal," Illinois State head coach Bo Durkac said. "The Illinois State campus and the Bloomington-Normal community once again made a difference by giving the gift of life during the holiday season.

"I would to thank our players, Laurie Retzer, Andrew Schuler from Redbird Red Cross, the Redbird Arena staff, and of course, the blood donors, for making Friday's drive a huge success."

The Illinois State baseball team is just over two months away from beginning the 2017 season, which kicks off Feb. 17-19 with three games at the Riverview Inn Governors Challenge, hosted by Austin Peay, in Clarksville, Tennessee.
