NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State senior gymnast Amanda Mohler was named Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Specialist of the Week by the conference office Wednesday, for her performance on the balance beam at last weekend's quad meet against Texas Woman's, Oklahoma and Auburn.
The honor was the third-consecutive honor in as many weeks for the Redbird senior.
"Amanda did one of the best beam routines of her four-year career," head coach Bob Conkling said. "To place second on beam against the No. 1 ranked team in Oklahoma, along with the No. 8 ranked team in Auburn was proof of just how good Amanda's routine was."
The Tinley Park, Ill., native was stellar on a pair of events against some of the strongest competition the Redbirds will face all season. She posted a career-best score of 9.900 to tie for second on the balance beam competition.
"Amanda has worked on the small details to continue to improve her beam routine," Conkling said. "Her 9.9 score was second to a 10.0 routine from an Oklahoma gymnast, which is awesome."
The Redbirds will host Winona State Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in Horton Field House in its annual Pink Meet to raise awareness for women's cancers.
