MOBILE, Ala. – With a spring match already in the books, the Illinois State men's golf team will begin the tournament play portion of its spring schedule beginning Monday at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Mobile, Alabama.
The two-day event will begin Monday, Feb. 22, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and teams will play two rounds on the first day of competition. Final round action on Tuesday will begin at 8 a.m., at the Par 72, 7,212-yard Robert Trent Jones designed course that was recently named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses" by Golf World Magazine readers.
The field includes No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 4 Auburn, as well as Chattanooga, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi Texas State and host South Alabama.
The Redbird lineup will consist of Trent Wallace, Zach Burry, Tyler Gentilella, Kyle Meihofer and Michael Mounce. Head coach Ray Kralis is excited to see what his team can do against some of the best teams in the country.
"Trent and Zach played very well in the matches with Illinois, and we saw a number of positives from the others. With the strength of this field from top to bottom, we'll need contributions from everyone over the three rounds," Kralis said. "Our season is extremely competitive all the way through spring break, but that is by design so we'll be ready for a strong finish. The competition and reps at the Tinervin Cup were helpful, and while you still can't simulate grass and the variety of lies you face, I feel very good about what we have done here in our preparation around that trip."
Live stats from the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate will be updated every three holes throughout each day of competition and will be available at www.golfstat.com.
