NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team travel to Rio Verde, Arizona Friday to compete in the 14th annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Michigan. The invitational will begin with a shot gun start on Friday at 1pm. Play will begin at 8am on Saturday and Sunday.
ISU's last competition was the Illinois Challenge in Venice, Florida on February 13th, where they were defeated 8.5-.5.
Coach Darby Sligh has a positive outlook on the upcoming competition.
"We love this event in Rio Verde," Sligh said. "The course is in excellent shape and the weather far exceeds what we left in Illinois. We had great feedback from our play at the Illinois Challenge and were able to train through some of our faults this past week. We are prepared to attack this golf course, and I'm looking for fearless play this weekend."
Representing the Redbirds are Kiley Walsh, Courtnee Cossell, Abby Luchtenburg, Renee Solberg and Caitlin Sims. Maggie Ambrose will compete individually.
