RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Illinois State women's golf team sits in 13th place after day one of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational at The Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
"Overall, today was a solid start to our spring season," ISU head coach Darby Sligh said. "Our mistakes were tied mostly into small mental errors, and not the big physical missed we have been working on. Courtnee (Cossell) and Kiley (Walsh) both had very solid rounds to lead us. It's exciting to see everyone putting into practice the things we have worked on indoors."
Topping the leaderboard was Missouri Valley Conference rival Bradley, which finished day one with a score of 298. Tied for first on the individual leaderboard are Xavier's Hanna Lee, Bradley's Danielle Lemek, and Wichita State's Gavrilla Arya all shooting one under par and accumulating a day one score of 71.
Leading the way for ISU was Courtnee Cossell, who fired a first-round score of 74, placing her in a seven-way tie for 15th. Next on the individual leaderboard for the Redbirds was Kiley Walsh who is placed in a 12-way tie for 33rd, shooting a first round score of 76. Sitting in a 12-way tie for 44th is Caitlin Sims, after shooting a first round total of 77. Abby Luchtenburg and Renee Solberg currently share a spot in a 12-way tie for 70th place, both ending the day with a score of 80. Maggie Ambrose sits in a tie for 92nd shooting a score of 84 as an individual competitor.
