Illinois State sophomore Kiley Walsh posted a top-20 individual finish, as the Redbirds finished the third and final round of the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational at The Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona, in 17th with a score of 928 (307-305-316.)
"We keep getting close and just falling short," head coach Darby Sligh said. "Kiley (Walsh) played great today and I'm excited about her top-20 finish in a solid field. There is a lot for us to work on before we compete over spring break, but I know it will pay off."
Climbing 12 spots on the leaderboard from Saturday and leading the Redbirds was Walsh, who shot a three-round total of 224 (75-76-73) and finished in a nine-way tie for 15th place. Courtnee Cossell shot a total of 224 (75-80-84) to finish in a tie for 42nd and Caitlin Sims had a three-round score of 239 (77-84-78), placing her in a three-way tie for 76th. Close behind was Abby Luchtenburg, who shot a total of 240 (80-79-81) and finished in a five-way tie for 79th.
Topping the leaderboard was Toledo, which accumulated a final score of 885 (298-294-293). Fellow Missouri Valley Conference foes Wichita State (300-294-302), Missouri State 896 (306-297-293), and UMKC (302-295-299) finished in a three-way tie for second with totals of 896.
Hanna Lee held the number one spot on the individual leaderboard through all three rounds, finishing with a one-over par score of 217 (71-70-76). Rounding out the top three were Toledo's Sathika Ruenreong, who finished second with a total score of 218 (74-70-74), and Missouri State's Caroline Boone, who climbed four spots to third place after shooting a total of 219 (72-74-73.)
The women's golf team returns to action on March 14-15 at the ORU/SFA Invitational in Dallas, Texas.   Â
