Coach Garrett Speaks at the 2016 WISTCA

MADISON, Wis. – Illinois State's high jump and multi-event coach LaMar Garrett will be a key speaker at the 2016 Wisconsin Track Coaches Association (WISTAC) Coaches Clinic on Friday, Feb. 5 at the Madison Marriott West in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Garrett will be discussing the topic on the proper techniques and how to train high jumpers. The WISTCA Coaches Clinic is a two day event with ten speakers. Coach Garrett will be the only speaker representing high jump.

Other speakers included Michelle Carter (U.S. Olympian), Loren Seagrave (sprints), Adam Nelson (shot put), Dr. Rich McGuire (sports psychology), Gavin Kennedy (distance), Alan Webb (triathlete), Julia Webb (distance), Jan Johnson (pole vault) and Bryan Hoddle (hurdles).

Carter is an American shot putter and is the current the American record-holder of 20.24m (66-04.75) that was set at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Carter is the key note speaker for the 2016 WISTAC Coaches Clinic.

Seagrave will discuss the new neuro-biomechanics for starting and the acceleration, and also the work capacity which she will argue the most important factor in performance. Nelson will team-up with Carter to discuss the techniques and drills to master the development in shot put. Nelson will also present a solo-presentation on the rotation of the right start and finish in shot put. McGuire will present and teach the skills of FOCUS and how to build positive parent relationships. Kennedy, a fourth season distance coach at the University of Wisconsin, will discuss how to train for the 1,600-meter, 800-meter and 3,000-meter. Alan Webb will speak on behalf of his journey of becoming a World Class Miler. Julia Webb will discuss the importance of special consideration for female distance runners and how to train female distance runners. Johnson, world record holder and coordinator of the pole vault camp "Sky Jumpers", will discuss the safety of pole vault and the basic progression of pole vaulting. Hoddle will be representing how to write hurdle workouts for high school and middle school programs.
