DALLAS, Texas –After two days and three rounds of golf at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational at Trophy Club Country Club in Dallas, Texas, the Illinois State women's golf team placed 18th with an accumulated score of 944 (321-308-315.)
Kiley Walsh finished the competition, leading the Redbirds with a score of 230 (79-78-73) and climbing 20 spots to land a three-way tie for 42nd. Abby Luchtenburg shot a three round total of 238 (77-73-88) and climbed three spots from Monday to finish in a four-way tie for 76th. Courtnee Cossell shot a score of 241 (83-75-83) and tied for 84th place with teammate Caitlin Sims, who shot a total score of 241 with rounds of (82-82-77.) Maggie Ambrose shot a total of 250 (83-85-82) and finished in a three-way tie for 97th.
"Once we get four scores together on the same day we will be hard to beat," said Illinois State head coach Darby Sligh. "Until then, we will continue to learn and grow from these rounds that just don't remotely meet our standards. Solid comeback rounds from Kiley and Caitlin will give us some momentum heading into Georgia State."
Claiming the number one spot for the invitational was Houston Baptist University finishing 51-over par with a total score of 891 (291-298-302.) Topping the individual leaderboard was HBU's Giorgia Corletti who shot a three-round score of 216 (71-74-71) and University of Arkansas Little Rock's Shania Berger 216 (70-72-74) who both shot six-over par and ended in a tie for first. Wichita State's Taryn Torgerson rounded out the top three with a total score of 217 (74-71-72) shooting seven-over par.
