CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Illinois State senior gymnast Amanda Mohler was named the Midwest Independent Conference Senior of the Year and won the conference championship on the balance beam, as the Redbirds finished in fourth place overall Saturday night at the MIC Championship hosted by Southeast Missouri State.
Lindenwood won the conference title with a total score of 194.925, followed closely by SEMO in second place with a final tally of 194.375. Texas Women's finished in third place with a score of 193.325 ahead of the Redbirds in fourth, and UIC (191.625) and Centenary (188.825) rounded out the final team standings.
"I thought we did a good job tonight against some very tough competition at the MIC Championship," head coach Bob Conkling said. "Every team seemed to be hitting their routines tonight, so it was an exciting competition and a lot of fun to watch. A few more healthy bodies and I think we would have finished better, but the team we had out there tonight did the best they could do and I am very proud of their effort."
Mohler capped off her career with a stellar beam routine, recording a 9.900 to take home a conference championship and All-MIC honors for the second-straight year in the event. Teammate Marie Priest also had a solid performance in the event, posting a 9.800 to finish in a tie for sixth place overall and earn second-team All-MIC honors.
On the vault, Kristyn Bossle finished in a tie for sixth place with a 9.675 to earn second-team All-MIC honors and Sarah Fisher posted a top-10 finish in a tie for ninth with a 9.625. Megan Knoernschild (9.725) and Samantha Ward (9.700) each had top-15 finishes on the uneven bars and Demi Pas finished in a tie for 15th place overall on the floor exercise with a 9.750.
