NORMAL, Ill. – Nine student-athletes from the Illinois State men's and women's track and field teams travel to Carbondale, Illinois to compete in the Bill Cornell Spring Classic hosted by Southern Illinois.
Competition will begin 9 a.m. on Saturday with women's discus throw. The nine student-athletes that will be competing this weekend will include James Brandenburg, Jake Glass, Zachary Gregory, Adam Schaufelberger, Tessa Holland, Kassie Hoyme, Morgan Keller, Jorjiann Sparrgrove and Brandy Thomas.
Last time on the track the women earned the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field title, while the men placed fourth.
The Redbirds captured seven individual event tiles, while both men's and women's 4x400-meter relay earned first place. Overall, the ISU teams posted 19 All-Valley accolades.
Brandenburg competed in the men's heptathlon at the MVC championships were he scored a total of 4,988 points and placed sixth overall.
Holland posted a fourth place finish in the women's pentathlon with a score of 3,703 points, which is ranked second in school history. She earned personal-best performance in all five events—600 meter, 800 meter, 60-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put. In the open high jump, Holland captured third place and received all-Valley honors.
Keller and Thomas competed in the women's shot put at the MVC championships. Thomas posted her personal-best throw with a mark of 14.93m (48-11.75) and was just shy from earning All-Valley as she placed fourth overall. Her mark jumped two places on the Illinois State's all-time best list from eighth to sixth. Keller finished sixth with a mark of 14.69m (48-02.50).
