Brittney Marshall Promoted to Assistant Coach

NORMAL, Ill. – Brittney Marshall has been elevated to assistant coach in the Illinois State women's basketball program, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Barb Smith. Marshall is entering her second season working with the up-and-coming Redbird program, after completing the 2015-16 season as the director of basketball operations. She replaces Jessica Grayson, who served on the Redbird staff for three years and left to pursue an opportunity closer to her hometown.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with Brittney in a different role with the women's basketball program," Smith said. "She did an outstanding job as our Director of Basketball Operations, and it will be fun to watch her continue to grow as an assistant coach. Brittney is driven, works extremely hard and is very organized. She has a great personality, will be very good on the floor and will be a successful recruiter. She is positive, is a solution-based thinker and is great with our players."

Marshall joined the women's basketball staff in June 2015 as the director of basketball operations. Over the last year, she worked with the team managers and organized scout teams during practices. Marshall also assisted with team technology and coordinated community service opportunities. In addition, she also coordinated all apparel purchases, completed various special projects, and oversaw team travel, academics and game scheduling.

Marshall has six years of combined basketball experience working with collegiate and professional teams, including the WNBA's Chicago Sky, as well as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She has served as the director of basketball operations twice and as an interim assistant coach.

"I am extremely excited and thankful to Barb and the administration for the opportunity," Marshall said. "Illinois State is truly a special place, and I am committed to helping the program return to its winning tradition."

Before coming to ISU, Marshall served as the director of basketball operations for two seasons at Bucknell, where she identified key operational factors for increasing fan interaction, which resulted in increased attendance. Marshall also negotiated contracts and letters of agreements for all aspects of travel, including transportation, lodging and meals. She also assisted in creating, designing and implementing a yearly recruiting mailing correspondence system for prospective student-athletes based on program marketing materials. In addition, Marshall started 'Breakfast with the Bison' and continued the 'Bison Day' program, which were special events for season ticket holders and prospective student-athletes, respectively.

Prior to Bucknell, Marshall was the director of basketball operations at Saint Louis for three seasons. At SLU, she directed all video operations, including film editing, highlight films and film exchange. Marshall also directed social media engagements and interactions, while developing professional enhancement programs and seminars for the student-athletes. She also managed the team's community service programs and events, raising over $9,000 in association with the American Cancer Society. Marshall managed a support staff of 11 managers and 12 male practice players while directing all camps.

Marshall played summer basketball with the Chicago Flames providing another Chicago connection to the ISU women's basketball program.
