NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team returns to action, after a week off, to face Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Illinois, on Saturday. This begins Missouri Valley Conference competition for the Redbirds, also marking 71 years of play against SIU. ISU has a 28-39 record against SIU.
"We've been looking forward to this weekend for a while now as it's always nice to get conference play going," head coach Mark Klysner said. "The guys have had good preparation leading up to this weekend, and we should be ready to play a strong SIU team. They've definitely gotten better since last year, so this should be a tight match."
Illinois State goes into this weekend with a spring record of 8-10. Southern Illinois enters competition with a spring mark of 11-3. Â
Redbirds to watch this weekend are Dylan Steffens, who is currently sporting a 15-1 dual singles record to lead the team, while adding to his overall season record of 22-6. Doubles partner and teammate Christoffer Greve ranks second in dual singles victories, with a 13-3 mark, and an overall season record of 19-6.
The match versus the Salukis is set to begin Saturday at 11 a.m. in Carbondale, Illinois at University Courts.
