NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State and PNC Bank honored student-athletes selected as PNC Bank Student-Athlete Achievers of the Game with a dinner at the Hancock Stadium Club Wednesday night to coincide with National STUDENT-Athlete Day.
Twelve Illinois State student-athletes were recognized as PNC Bank Student-Athlete Achievers of the Game with in-game, on-court recognition ceremonies during 2015-16 men's basketball games. Each PNC Bank Student-Athlete Achiever of the Game was presented an award by a Karin L. Bone Athletics Study Center staff member and a representative from PNC Bank.
"We are thrilled to team with PNC Bank to honor these 12 wonderful Redbird student-athletes who exemplify and define the spirit of being a student-athlete through their service and leadership, as well as their academic and athletic accomplishments," said Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Life Skills Dr. Paul Downey. "Each of these student-athletes serves as a role model for their teammates on and off their respective fields of play."
The 2015-16 PNC Bank Student-Athlete Achievers of the game included: Courtnee Cossell (women's golf), Tyler Gentilella (men's golf), CJ Hamilton (men's track and field), Annie Heineman (softball), Kadi Ilves (women's tennis), Brooke Ksiazek (soccer), Amanda Mohler (gymnastics), Ashley Rosch (volleyball), Jake Sale (baseball), Kimi Sanden (women's cross country/women's track and field), Courtney Taylor (swimming and diving) and Rolando Torrellas (men's tennis).
STUDENT-Athlete Day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the playing fields and who give back to their community through service projects.
STUDENT-Athlete Day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, with partnership from the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
