KOHLER, Wis. – Illinois State men's golf standout Trent Wallace will begin play in Kohler, Wisconsin, one of six regional sites for this year's NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, Monday. Wallace automatically qualified after claiming medalist honors at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship and will tee off at 10:01 a.m.
Wallace will be playing at Blackwolf Run's Meadow Valleys Course, and is one of 10 individuals competing in the regional. Illinois is the top seed in the 13-team regional, as a total of 75 student-athletes will be competing. Marquette University is the host of the regional.
Overall, six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted, with thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams competing at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon. The University of Oregon is the host institution for the 2016 championships.
Wallace took medalist honors at the MVC Championship with a 1-over-par 211 (73-69-69) at the par-70 Prairie Dunes Country Club. The freshman fired a 1-under-par 69 in the third and final round – his second consecutive 69 – which tied his season low while allowing him to become the fifth student-athlete in program history to win the conference championship. The victory also established Missouri Valley All-Conference honors for Wallace, who finished with five birdies in the final round.
