WICHITA, Kan. – Juniors Urh Krajnc Domiter and Dylan Steffens each earned a spot on the 2016 All-Missouri Valley Conference Team, the league office announced Monday, upon conclusion of the MVC Men's Tennis Team Championship.
Krajnc Domiter went 1-0 in singles during ISU's two matches at the team championship hosted by Wichita State. In Illinois State's quarterfinal win over UMBC, Krajnc Domiter earned a No. 1 singles victory over Justin Carter, 7-5, 6-2. The following day versus the host Shockers, Krajnc Domiter earned a first-set win over No. 83 Tin Ostojic, 7-6, before the match was suspended due to Wichita State clinching the match-point. Krajnc Domiter finished the regular season with an 8-13 overall record in singles play.
Steffens also earned a 1-0 mark in singles at the MVC Team Championship while going 1-1 in No. 2 doubles with partner Christoffer Greve. Versus UMBC, Steffens and Greve helped Illinois State secure the doubles point by defeating Justin Carter and Alex Drean, 6-2. Steffens then rolled past Kevin Hsieh in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-0. In ISU's semifinal meeting with Wichita State, Steffens and Greve fell to No. 86 Miroslav Herzan and Haru Inoue, 6-0. Steffens' No. 6 singles match went unfinished.
Steffens earned a team-best 26-7 overall singles record, including a 19-2 mark during the spring season. He also went 15-13 in doubles play. As a team, Illinois State finished the 2015-16 season with a 10-14 overall record after bowing out of the MVC Team Championship in the semifinal round.
