ST. LOUIS – Illinois State senior baseball players Jacob Hendren and Brian Rodemoyer have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced Tuesday. Hendren was a first-team selection, while Rodemoyer was an honorable mention pick.
Hendren, a senior from Le Roy, Illinois, earned first-team honors for the second-consecutive season. He was 3-8 with a 5.66 ERA in 15 appearances. He ranked second among Redbird pitchers in both innings pitched (82.2) and strikeouts (60), and finished his season with 4.2 scoreless innings of relief work in an MVC Tournament game against Evansville May 26.
A standout in the classroom as well, Hendren owns a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a mathematics/pre-medicine major. He was named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week twice this spring, and was a Capital One Academic All-America selection a season ago.
Rodemoyer, a senior from Western Springs, Illinois, slashed .222/.338/.389 for the Redbirds this spring. He tallied nine doubles and three home runs, two of which came in Illinois State's season-opening series at Belmont. Rodemoyer started the season with 10 RBIs in the first three games at Belmont and collected four hits in two games at the MVC Tournament last month.
Equally impressive academically, Rodemoyer finished his collegiate career with a 3.75 GPA as a molecular and cellular biology major. He has been named to the MVC and AFNI honor rolls every possible year and semester, and is a three-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.
