NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State rising sophomore Tyler Paulsen played like an all-star this summer as a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League's Grand Lake Mariners.
A native of Channahon, Illinois, Paulsen batted .285 with 20 extra-base hits and 37 RBIs in 40 summer games for Grand Lake. After the season, he was named an all-league first-team selection.
Paulsen ranked third in the league in home runs and shared fifth place in RBIs. He was named an all-star for the league's annual showcase July 19 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
In undoubtedly his best game of the summer, Paulsen helped Grand Lake to an 8-6 win over Lake Erie with two home runs and five RBIs on July 16.

Nick Alvarado | Bloomington Bobcats | Midwest Collegiate League
- Made five summer appearances for Bloomington, including one start, striking out five over seven innings of work.
- Tallied one strikeout in a relief appearance in the MCL playoffs.
Zach Barnhart | Dubois County Bombers | Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League
- Finished the summer with a .333/.413/.333 batting line, six stolen bases, seven RBIs and 18 runs scored.
- Went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Dubois County's playoff win over Paducah (remaining playoff games were rained out).
Jeffrey Barton | Terre Haute Rex | Prospect League
- Went 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 53 innings, spanning nine starts, for Terre Haute.
- Struck out seven over five innings in his final summer appearance July 30 against Springfield.
Lucas Hall | Bloomington Bobcats/Springfield Sliders | Midwest Collegiate League/Prospect League
- Finished the summer 0-3 with a 5.75 ERA in 15.2 innings for Bloomington.
- Finished his stint with Springfield with a 1-2 record, 5.40 ERA and four strikeouts in 16.2 innings.
Ryan Hutchinson | Kokomo Jackrabbits | Prospect League
- Finished the season slashing .306/.448/.478 with 21 extra-base hits, 24 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 53 games.
- Was named a Prospect League All-Star and helped Kokomo to the Prospect League playoffs.
Danny Jackson | Madisonville Miners | Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League
- Finished the summer with a .221/.303/.265 batting line in 20 games played.
- Tallied three doubles, 15 runs scored and 11 RBIs during the summer season.
Jack Landwehr | Lakeshore Chinooks | Northwoods League
- Currently 4-2 with two saves, 3.12 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 31.2 innings on the mound.
- Led Lakeshore to wins in his last two outings, both starts, allowing just four earned runs over 14 innings of work.
Jeff Lindgren | Madisonville Miners | Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League
- Finished the summer with a 3-3 record, 5.77 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 39 innings of work for Madisonville.
- Did not allow an earned run over six innings and picked up the win in Madisonville's playoff win over Muhlenberg (remaining playoff games were rained out).
Owen Miller | Lakeshore Chinooks | Northwoods League
- Slashing .266/.318/.369 with 16 extra-base hits and 26 RBIs in 63 summer games.
- Hit a two-run home run in the Northwoods League's Major League Dreams '16 showcase event on Aug. 9.
Connor Moroder | Dubois County Bombers | Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League
- Finished the summer slashing .330/.374/.454 with 17 RBIs in 37 games.
- Also posted a 3.18 ERA and seven strikeouts in 11.1 innings on the mound.
Mitch Vogrin | Madison Mallards | Northwoods League
- Recorded a save in his most recent outing, tossing a scoreless inning in a 5-4 win over Willmar.
- Owns two saves and a 2.66 ERA in 18 outings, covering 27 innings, with less than a week remaining in the regular season.
Mitch Weis | Bloomington Bobcats | Midwest Collegiate League
- Named the MCL Pitcher of the Year after going 2-3 with a 2.31 ERA and 57 strikeouts over 54.2 innings pitched during the regular season.
- Allowed one earned run over seven innings, while striking out eight, in his lone postseason start.
Nick Zouras | Grand Lake Mariners | Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League
- Earned all-league honorable mention status, thanks to a .255/.324/.376 batting line, with 14 doubles and 17 RBIs in 39 games.
- Homered twice in Grand Lake's lone playoff game, an 11-4 loss to Licking County.
Note: Several current Redbirds who played summer baseball are not included in this report, as statistics were not available.
