NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf program has named Austin Sproles its new assistant coach, it was announced Tuesday by head coach Darby Sligh.
Sproles enters his first season as a collegiate coach, after graduating in May 2016 from Eastern Illinois with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and sports studies. He was a four-year member of the men's golf team at EIU and was a two-time member of the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"We couldn't be more excited to have Austin join our staff," Sligh said. "He has a wealth of playing experience and success at the Division I level and also brings with him an exercise science background that fits into our teaching principles perfectly. His calm demeanor and competitive spirit should serve this squad well during his time here at Illinois State."
Sproles grew up in Bloomington, Illinois, and attended Tri-Valley High School in Downs, Illinois, where he was the Class 1A IHSA state golf champion in 2011. Over the 2016 spring semester at EIU, he was as an intern at The Body Club in Charleston, Illinois, and also completed his Titleist Performance Institute Level 1 Certification in Feb. 2016.
