Redbird Track and Field Staff Speaks at Coaches Clinics

TOLONO, Ill. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jeff Bovee will be a keynote speaker at the 2017 Central Illinois Track and Field Coaching Clinic Friday at Unity High School, Tolono, Illinois.

Bovee will be joined by Alonzo Nelson, who is the other keynote speaker for Friday Night. Nelson is an Elite Track and Field Coach and is a multiple Olympic gold medalist. Registration cost is $60 for Bovee's keynote session and will begin at 5:30 p.m.

CHICAGO – Several other members of the track and field staff will be speaking at the 2017 Glazier Track & Field Clinic Friday at the Westin Chicago Northwest.

Sprints, hurdles and relays assistant coach Brenton Emanuel will be have a total of five sessions. Emanuel has a total of five sessions. He will be discussing training strategy and drills for the 100- and 200-meter dash in the afternoon. Then, Emanuel will be speak on training and event strategy for starting blocks and highly effective plyometrics. Later, he will be included in the "Ask the Coach" sessions, which also includes Kevin Enchelmeyer from Notre Dame, Virginia's Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Bryan Fetzer and John O'Malley, who is the head coach at Carl Sandburg High School.

Jake Shaver, assistant distance coach, will also be speaking at the Glazier Track & Field Clinic. His topics will cover incorporating plyometrics into middle distance training and striking the balance, his presentation on "Spoke on the Wheel."

Assistant throws coach Shawn Williams will be joining Emanuel and Shaver at the Glazier Track & Field Clinic. Williams will have a two-part discussion on building throws from scratch. One sessions he will be leading will be the progressions for the glide shot put and the progressions for the discus throw.  He will also be discussing highly-effective training methods for throwers, including plyometrics, medicine balls and multi-throws.

Registration cost for all 2017 Glazier Track and field Clinic sessions is $99.

Also, assistant pole vault and jumps coach Mary Wood spoke at the 2017 Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (ITCCCA) last weekend, Jan. 14. Wood spoke on training pole vaulting and her presentation was on "Training Outside the Box". Fans can look at her notes by clicking HERE.
