ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Redbirds Christoffer Greve, Andreas Boers, and Egehan Sertkaya and each earned a victory in their respective matches on day one of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Â
"We had a very good day overall," head coach Mark Klysner said. "We started the day with a couple of singles wins against Big Ten schools, and then to watch Andreas follow his first match win with another solid performance in the afternoon, playing some very disciplined tennis." Â
Boers earned a win over Michigan State's John Carlin, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. In his second matchup, Boers overcame Green Bay's Charlie Croxford, 6-4, 6-4.Â
Boers will compete in the third round of qualifying singles Friday.Â
Also in singles play, Greve defeated Michigan State's Jack Winkler, 6-2, 6-0 before dropping a second match to Notre Dame's Will Howells, 6-0, 6-1.
"Egehan also got another quality win against a tough opponent," said Klysner. "We will definitely use this momentum going into tomorrow as Andreas continues singles play and we have two teams starting the doubles main draw."
Sertkaya took a match over UDM's Alvaro Arce, 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
The Redbirds will be back in action tomorrow to compete in the doubles main draw and continue singles play. Boers and Sertkaya will team up for a match against Ohio State. The duo of Greve and Igor Kolaric will take on Western Michigan.Â
