NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State women's tennis team earned seven wins, going undefeated in doubles on day one of the Redbird Duals in Normal, Illinois.

The flight one duo of Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic earned a win over Eastern Illinois' Stella Cliffe and Srishti Slaria, 6-1. In flight two, Jana Kustkova and Ivon Mihaleva topped Eastern Illinois' Emily Pugachevsky and Karla Contreras, 6-0. Valerija Gercar and Laura Fitzgerald teamed up to defeat Eastern Illinois' Claire Martin and Abby Carpenter, 6-2, to round out an undefeated day of doubles play.
In singles play, Illinois State took four of six matches over Butler.
In flight one, Golanova defeated Butler's Lauren Padgett, 6-4, 7-5. Mihaleva earned a win over Butler's Lauren Marx, 6-1, 6-3 in flight four. Another Redbird win came from Gercer, who overcame Butler's Nina Bertino, 6-0, 6-2, in flight five. Fitzgerald won a match over Butler's Callie Schmit, 6-2, 6-2, in flight six.
Illinois State came up short in two tough three-set matches. Vujicic fell by Butler's Rachel Sutton, 3-6, 7-5, 7-10, in flight two of singles. In the third flight of singles, Kustkova was defeated by Butler's Emily Neal, 6-0, 2-6, 10-6.
The Redbirds will return to action Sunday at the Bloomington Tennis Center. In doubles play, Illinois State will take on Saint Louis at 8 a.m. followed by matches against Butler at 9 a.m. Competition will close out with singles play against Eastern Illinois at 10 a.m.
