ST. LOUIS – Capping off a week in which he won the Little Rock Invitational by two strokes – and finishing below par in all three rounds – Illinois State junior Trent Wallace has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
Wallace carded rounds of 71, 68, and 71 on the par-72 course, finishing with a six-under 210, and two strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. As a team, the Redbirds took second in the field, behind only tournament host Little Rock.
This season Wallace is averaging 72.39 strokes per round, which is fourth-best in the Missouri Valley Conference, and second-best on the team behind last week's MVC Golfer of the Week award winner Zach Burry (72.28).
The Redbirds' runner-up finish at the Little Rock Intercollegiate was the team's final event of the 2017-18 fall season. The spring season kicks off on January 27 when the team travels to Mobile, Alabama, to compete in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, hosted by South Alabama.
