NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore transfer Valentina Duque will be taking part in the U20 Colombian National Team training camp. During training camp, she will be taking time away from competing with the Illinois State women's soccer team.
"It's always an honor to have the opportunity to represent my country," said Duque. "Although I will be missing the team, I know they will perform to the best of their ability and continue to work toward accomplishing our goals. I will be cheering them on!"
Training camp will be held in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia from October 27-November 11. Duque will be rejoining the team when she returns. The last time she was with the U20 National Team was at their training camp in 2015. As a member of the U20 National Team, she was one of the youngest players named to the squad that finished third in the South American Cup/World Cup Qualifiers.
"As a coaching staff and team, we are all excited for Valentina and her call-up to be with the Colombian National Team," said head coach Brad Silvey. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Val to represent her country at the highest level. Although we will miss having her with our team as we wind down our regular season and prepare for post-season play, we stand behind and support Val as she lives out her dreams within soccer."
