NORMAL, Ill. – The nominees for the 2016-17 Jill Hutchison Female Athlete of the Year and Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year awards were announced Wednesday.
The winners will be named at The Reggies, Illinois State's annual academic excellence awards ceremony, on Sunday, Oct. 15. The event, held at Redbird Arena, is sponsored by State Farm.
Nominees for the Jill Hutchinson Female Athlete of the Year Award are Gabrielle Cooke (gymnastics), Jordan de los Reyes (softball), Jaelyn Keene (volleyball), Lauren Koehl (soccer), Amanda McClain (track and field), Rachel Root (swimming and diving) and Kiley Walsh (golf).
Nominees for the Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year Award are Davontae Harris (football), Paris Lee (basketball), Owen Miller (baseball), Derrius Rodgers (track and field) and Trent Wallace (golf).
Five other awards will be conferred on Oct. 15, including the Impact Award, Good Neighbor Award, Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and Doug Collins Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, as well as the Dr. Jim Johnson Phoenix Award.
