Men’s Tennis Announces the Addition of Pol Botifoll Rius to the 2017-18 Season

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis head coach Mark Klysner announced the addition of Pol Botifoll Rius to the 2017-18 roster on Thursday.

Rius is the sixth addition to men's tennis and will begin his career in spring of 2018 as an incoming freshman.

A Manresa native, Rius ranks #135 for the Men's Open in Spain. He was recruited by Southern Mississippi, EKU, Gonzaga, Boise State and Denver.

Rius on Choosing Illinois State: "I chose ISU because I liked the tennis team. They were all freshmen like me, and seemed like a very professional and good team. I loved the university campus, it is something I could have never imagined. I liked how helpful the university staff was to me, especially my future coach."

Klysner on Rius: "I am very excited that Pol chose ISU. We get to add another talented player as well as a great student to our roster this spring. Pol has played close matches with guys over 14 UTR and also top 100 ITF players and has also been rated as high as 13.22 UTR himself. I know his experience in these big matches, along with his desire to play at the highest level will add a lot of depth to our team. I look forward to him getting here in January expect great things from Pol."

Rius will make his debut in the dual season alongside the rest of the Redbird squad. Men's tennis will open the dual season Jan. 27 with play against Butler in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
