Men’s Golf Finishes Opening Rounds of Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. - The Illinois State men's golf team currently sits in 13th place after the first day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Redbirds shot a two-round total of 14-over-par 599, after shooting a 9-over-par 297 in the first round, followed by a 14-over-par 302 in the second round. Host South Alabama currently leads the 15-team field with an 11-under-par 565 (278-287), followed by Louisville and Mississippi State.

Sophomore Trent Wallace led the way for the Redbirds after shooting an even-par 72 (35-37) in the first round, followed by a 1-under-par 71 (34-37) in the second round. He also tacked on 10 total birdies, including five in a row in the first round. Wallace currently sits in a tie for 17th place on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under-par 143 (72-71).

Freshman David Perkins finished the day with a score of 4-over-par 148, after finishing both rounds with a 2-over-par 74. He also fired a birdie in both rounds and currently sits in a tie for 41st place on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Zach Burry finished with a two-round total of 11-over-par 155 after shooting a 3-over-par 75 (39-36) in the first round, followed by an 8-over-par 80 (41-39) in the second round.

Senior Christian Crabill finished the day with a 16-over-par 160 after shooting an 11-over-par 83 (41-42) in the first round. In the second round, he improved by six strokes and shot a 5-over-par 77 (40-37). Senior Austin Havens finished with an identical score of 16-over par 160 after shooting a 4-over-par 76 (40-36) in the first round and 12-over-par 84 (42-42) in the second round.

Junior Jason Marrs, who competed as an individual in the USA Individual Tournament, finished the day with a 19-over-par 161 (80-81).

"Today was one of those days that you learn from and then put behind you," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We obviously hoped to come out of the gate and pick up where we left off in the fall, but we need to tighten up some things mentally and physically. We had a couple good days of practice over the weekend, and I look for us to move in the right direction tomorrow."

The Redbirds compete in the final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
